Our design fee is $60 an hour. An average medium sized job (such as a typical back yard) takes about eight hours of design work, including the initial and final sets of drawings. We will settle on a range of hours at our first meeting so that there are no surprises.
We take pride in our flexibility in location and process. A typical project flows like this:
Our initial meeting will be at the project site where we will spend about an hour discussing your goals, plants and color preferences, maintenance expectations, gardens or places of inspiration. This will help clarify the scope of the project. After you decide to move forward with the project, you will provide a copy of your property survey (for all but the smallest jobs). Additional measurements and photos of your property will be taken as well. Then we will set our next meeting date, usually within two weeks to a month.
At our next meeting, I will bring a drawing (or sometimes two versions, depending on the project) to stimulate more conversation and refinement of the plan. The discussion at this meeting, with the plan(s) in front of us, is useful and important in making sure that the final result of the project is what you’d like it to be.
After our second meeting, I will take your comments and directions and draw a final version of your plan. I will deliver this to you, along with a plant list, either in person or by mail by a date that we set together, usually within another two weeks to one month.
